My primary therapuetic approachs are Emotionally focused Therapy (EFT) and Life Span Intragration, both of which are based in attachment therory. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples was developed about 20 years ago by Sue Johnson, Ed.D and Leslie Greenberg, PhD. This short term (8-20 sessions) experiential and systemic couples therapy is now one of the most researched, delineated and empirically-validated approaches in the field of couples therapy. It has demonstrated powerful clinically significant effects with various populations (Johnson, 2003, JMFT 29, pg 365-385.
EFT presents a comprehensive theory of adult love and attachment and a process for healing distressed relationships. It recognizes that relationship distress results from a perceived threat to basic adult needs for safety, security and closeness in intimate relationships. This experiential/systemic therapy focuses on helping each partner reprocess the emotional experience underlying the rigid negative interactional patterns that keep them stuck. Through a series of well-defined stages the therapist takes the couple from conflict deadlock to creating new bonding interactions. EFT web site: www.eft.ca.
Lifespan Integration (LI) is a newer therapeutic technique which was developed by Peggy Pace www.LifespanIegration.com beginning in 2002. Pace originally designed Lifespan Integration [LI] for treating adults who experienced abuse or neglect in their childhoods. Since then, LI has been found to be effective with many different client populations and with all age groups. Lifespan Integration is now being successfully used by therapists in the United States, Canada, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. LI has been found to be extremely effective in the treatment of anxiety disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, attachment disorders, eating disorders, somatic disorders, and dissociative disorders
I graduated with a Masters In Social Work, with an emphasis in counseling, from Walla Walla College. I have been a practicing psychotherapist since January of 1997, starting with Sunderland Family Treatment Services. In 2000, I moved to Lourdes Counseling Center to further my knowledge and experience. In October of 2003, I went into private practice.
I have additional training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused, Trauma recovery including, but not limited to, sexual molestation and domestic violence.
I have a strong belief that people are resilient, seeking a path that will lead them to a more successful and meaningful life, and my therapuetic approach utilizes this resilience. I use an eclectic approach, a blend of several techniques, which allows me to best assist the individual or couple I am working with. I specializes in providing treatment, education, and support for the following:
* Couples * Marriage * Individuals
* Depression * Bipolar * Anxiety
* Stress * Spiritual * Grief
